Master André Kolychkine

Our Philosophy

At Judo Today, our philosophy extends beyond the mat, embodying the pioneering teachings of Master André Kolychkine. An illustrious figure in the world of Judo, Master Kolychkine introduced Judo in Cuba in 1951 and founded the Pan-American Judo Confederation. Holding an 8th-degree black belt and having studied under prominent senseis in France and Belgium, his academic approach revolutionized Judo teaching through rigorous Ph.D.-level research and pedagogy.

Kolychkine's New Didactics of Judo

Our unique teaching method is directly derived from Master Kolychkine’s innovative scientific approach. This method is not just about physical training; it’s about understanding Judo at a fundamental biomechanical level, which enhances both the teaching and the learning experience. The key components of this methodology include:

Students learn the strategic placement of body parts to optimize technique execution, crucial for mastering Judo throws and holds.

Mastery of timing and coordination ensures movements are both fluid and precise, essential for the dynamic environment of competitive Judo.

This involves understanding how different body segments, connecting joints, and muscles coordinate to execute Judo techniques effectively.

Identifying fundamental techniques that should be taught first, these serve as the cornerstone for learning more complex and related techniques.

Through this method, we ensure a comprehensive understanding of Judo, preparing our students not only to excel in sport but to embody the discipline and respect that come with it. This approach not only fosters physical agility but also instills a deep moral foundation, aligning with our commitment to nurture well-rounded individuals in a safe, supportive, and morally enriching environment.
